First was a drive thru, until we found ourselves in a community area, so took quick photo of scenery, then back into Main Street, to find the Umoona Opal Mine And Museum. Amazing opals, but I’d have to sell my car, to pay for the $62,500 black Opal earrings with white gold. Bugger. Here’s this morning’s pics.
Sturts Desert Pea, which is attempted to grow at home, but carked it after flowering.
Nope, didn’t do the mine tour, as this was the EXIT! My knees hurt just looking at it.
Fiona got a photo too 🤭
After three hours of a rest at van, we ventured to the underground Serbian Church. The drive there was interesting, with every house having fortification (mostly wire mesh and bars inside windows) and wrecked vehicles. It’s starting to resemble a Mad Max movie.
Found the church, beautiful painted glass murals and amazing carving.
Went over the road from the Big4 to get a photo of the big black truck, which looks in better condition than most of what’s being driven around 😅
Husband wants to go see the dog fence.. I want to see The Breakaways (big rocky hills), might see both. Then we could be lashing out on a meal at the Outback Bar &Grill, whoohooo
Finally found the info centre, for the permit required to see the Breakaways and the $11 was def worth it. Amazing landscapes out there, off the Oodnadatta road (bitumen until we turned off it) dirt road, well maintained, as we followed the fence approx 14kms to the amazing rock formations. Tour buses and single vehicles but nothing too bothersome. Found a spot for the sunset, until mozzies arrived for supper.
Headed back to CP and fuelled up the ute, before fuelling ourselves at Outback Bar & Grill , as promised, oh boy what a meal. HUGE 🙌🏻
We’re back at van, ready for bed, early morning and a big day, travelling to Alice Springs Big4 park.
