Fair enough we had the awning privacy screen and a big mat to fold up too, so not doing too bad. <div>Almost 8am, going to get fuel as we head out. It’s been a nice caravan park, I recommend the G’Day parks, short or long stays. </div><div>I’ve been watching the domestic flights heading off towards home, wishing I’d been on one though. I miss my cats snd Max, but thankfully, Nerolea has been sending me videos of them. 🥺</div><div>Ooh there goes a helicopter. I’ve never been in one of those. Maybe another time, just not too soon. </div><div>It’s 21C, nice morning, so not looking forward to 2C mornings at home though 😩. No riches found, leaving this joint Got the shit together quick today, leaving Coober Pedy at 7.15, heading to Port Augusta! <div>First stop was to get some doll pics in a moonscape. The surface of the red dirt had a black tinge to it, but couldn’t find a stop near a big patch, so this had to do. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1umMno8GL1OhHsYK4ChP_hR1e8Mj2bxnL" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1umMno8GL1OhHsYK4ChP_hR1e8Mj2bxnL" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Had a quick stop at Glendambo for fuel and coffee and the worst donut I’ve ever eaten.. why I didn’t stop at the first bite I’ll never know. Living out this far, deliveries are once a week and everything is frozen, even the bread 🤦🏻♀️</div><div style="text-align: left;">On to Lake Hart, where I had a trek down the hill, stood near the train track and took photos of the massive salt lake, then up a bloody sand hill to get the bigger picture. Mixed Feelings Of Going HomeWhile I’ve enjoyed seeing new landscapes and towns, I’m missing home, probably too much. <div>I know there’s lots of gardening to do, a garage sale to organise, cleaning the van , but it’s the cold weather I’m going to hate most. </div><div>Whilst it’s been quite warm in NT, it’s the damn bug bites on my legs, which are itching me, that’s wanting me to get home ASAP. </div><div>We’ll be missing Uluṟu, but plan to make it the destination for another trip, without the van. </div><div>We’re up at 6.30 heading to Tennant Creek caravan park, as it was a nice place to stay when going north. We may have time to look around there later. </div><div>Came out to pack things up and there’s these birds everywhere. They’ve turned up in last 10 minutes. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13opKzUi9quSR4w2XVrYkhviua644CjHD" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13opKzUi9quSR4w2XVrYkhviua644CjHD" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1gAAxBNP_v3s-rpnoG0B9OMMRJ_JSifHG" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1gAAxBNP_v3s-rpnoG0B9OMMRJ_JSifHG" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1XZE4n8FPx_0CR1TKbzatglH9Zzg4vTQa" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1XZE4n8FPx_0CR1TKbzatglH9Zzg4vTQa" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Very quiet out on the road, around 8am, took a few hours before anyone overtook us. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=12W9mDz4X9ap-YIOQnurQnj4Ahp-4dirP" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=12W9mDz4X9ap-YIOQnurQnj4Ahp-4dirP" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Got into TC around 1.30pm, settled the van at the Gday park, then went for a drive to lake Mary Ann, where it’s quite a pretty place to take the family. Lots of playgrounds, parking, toilets, birdlife. The lake is more of a dam catchment. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1JSXTqco9UNDpVL77iCtTeemhoOQMA-qh" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1JSXTqco9UNDpVL77iCtTeemhoOQMA-qh" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1yEmzPyw7yl6QcaEKc4BkoDE6mUDYkI-Y" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1yEmzPyw7yl6QcaEKc4BkoDE6mUDYkI-Y" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Back to have a look at the ‘Battery and Mining Museum, but drive thru the car park and thought better of it. The checkout girl held him up, wanting to see his receipt… he tried hard to say he’d paid slready, but he did go back into store and thru another checkout where he paid for his stuff anyway. </font></span></font></span><span class="s1"><font color="#000000" face="sans-serif" size="3"><span style="caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.3); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">I was hot and over it, I don’t want to go looking around town again. </span><span style="caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.3); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">To top off our long day, we have a van site right next to live music tonight, people set up in their camp chairs right out front of our door, it’s now 8.45 and I want to sleep. </span><span style="caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.3); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">I’m thinking (already knew it years ago) caravanning/camping isn’t me thing. </span><span style="text-align: left; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.3); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1IgclClZysyaJtBaX-XSbL5nMUDzNGs-g" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1IgclClZysyaJtBaX-XSbL5nMUDzNGs-g" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1mO__b2Q5oAT9uRo3WuegTrSrCmLTXE_4" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1mO__b2Q5oAT9uRo3WuegTrSrCmLTXE_4" style="color: rgb(69, 81, 84); font-family: HelveticaNeue; font-size: 12pt; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></span></font></span></p>Lyn Whttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04303601628705124747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4174244009471312931.post-55489982232721309122023-08-06T08:54:00.003+10:002023-08-06T08:54:52.153+10:000. Up The Guts To Darwin<h1 style="text-align: left;"> Thoughts before I go..</h1><div>We’ve spent the last week gearing up to head to Darwin, for Husband to compete in the Darwin Festival Of Clays competition, early August. </div><div>Husband decided on allowing us ten days travel, but we haven’t booked in to van parks, let alone know where we will be each night, so glad I booked ahead, for a space in a Darwin park. </div><div>With tales of theft, destruction and bodily assaults, taking place between here and buttf**k, can anyone understand my trepidation and anxiety? </div><div>Personally, I’m a home-body, where i know when i’m going to eat a meal, where I’m sleeping that night, surrounded by my familiar things and pets. That’s the hardest part: leaving my three cats and my poor old dog, at home, needing someone else to feed them but no extra cuddles (for Hunter 🐈) or smooches (from Milly 🐈⬛). Jerry won’t care as long as he’s fed, but Max (🦮) is now 14 1/2 years old, drools a bit, walks with difficulty but still loves to ‘fetch’.</div><div>Anyway, even though i’ve had back issues lately, (my chiropractor thinks I went to extremes, to get out of caravanning), I had one proviso. I’ll be taking my Smart Doll, Fiona, to take photos of the Outback. That should be interesting: being stared at by strangers as I pose the doll to photograph. </div><div>Van and ute are packed, probably with useless stuff. We are first-timers at a long trek (some 6,000kms round trip) so hoping I can get to blog about happy travels… </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1ZIAbWRKRhlWxo-VmuvdEzVPu9RIK-YZ3" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1ZIAbWRKRhlWxo-VmuvdEzVPu9RIK-YZ3" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div><br></div>Lyn Whttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04303601628705124747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4174244009471312931.post-17087375786815585112023-08-06T08:54:00.002+10:002023-08-06T08:54:30.690+10:001. Off To The AliceWe’re off to Alice Springs today. <div>Woke up to my Robot alarm at 6am, but it’s taken 2 hours for us to get our ‘shit’ together and get going. </div><div>The Big4 Stuart Range Resort was quiet enough, and it looks popular this morning, having almost filled our row with a variety of campers overnight. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1OpJef_AcMD5_AE-d0pb2jFyyb1qlOLP2" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1OpJef_AcMD5_AE-d0pb2jFyyb1qlOLP2" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Leaving Coober Pedy here’s the view </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1PMP0xi7EjoetjyncUo90F031z_GGCwiW" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1PMP0xi7EjoetjyncUo90F031z_GGCwiW" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1J4ONwat1GXDJODUpQVwNamlA5Qwlnhyx" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1J4ONwat1GXDJODUpQVwNamlA5Qwlnhyx" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Just stopped at Marla, almost three hours driving and my butt is sore, so had a coffee, a snack and a walk in the ‘supermarket’. Prices are quite high, but it’s supply and demand out here. </div><div style="text-align: left;">On to the border now, for a quick photo and then to Alice. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=15H7F6SZoDU2cQLr-RCJ8h8DhW0rVOWFz" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=15H7F6SZoDU2cQLr-RCJ8h8DhW0rVOWFz" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1ZD0B-QZ3EU8-GUwZ2BYDuZn5o6tYjUWh" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1ZD0B-QZ3EU8-GUwZ2BYDuZn5o6tYjUWh" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">The long drop absolutely stunk, great greeting at the border! <img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1y6FXap9_7hwyh0uPZK-umx-qqn9mUnqD" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1y6FXap9_7hwyh0uPZK-umx-qqn9mUnqD" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">First snack in NT!<img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1xyVMl2fBxNzrARQ95Zljh34MvCZBaD6p" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1xyVMl2fBxNzrARQ95Zljh34MvCZBaD6p" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Accomodation at Kulgera… fuel is $2.60 p/l! </div><div style="text-align: left;">Time to make our lunch in the van, I reckon, if ham, cheese and pickles sandwiches… </div><div style="text-align: left;">Off we go at 2pm. </div><div style="text-align: left;">We are at Stuart’s Well, where it looks like a manky swamp. Where to now? No, really, where do we go from here? Had a good sleep afterall, thinking I’d be awake listening to thieves steal our stuff, but after Carlton won their game, I was off like the lights. <div>Woke up at 6, bloody robot alarm, to sound of spatter of rain. It’s 16C currently. </div><div>We have no set destination today, but apparently we’ll be free-camping tonight. I have the option to book another night here, but I’m not feeling touristy, just wanna get out of Staleg 13. Left prison camp at 7.17, to get fuel @$2.03 p/L, wishing we had a long range tank. </div><div>Impressed with the main road thru town, very clean and gardens well kept. Check out their Facebook page, quite interesting. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=130zCH610daiUPN5JAjV8jR4z3UMSnAZC" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=130zCH610daiUPN5JAjV8jR4z3UMSnAZC" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div>Lyn Whttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04303601628705124747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4174244009471312931.post-91640126840189615562023-08-06T08:51:00.002+10:002023-08-06T08:51:45.543+10:009. Nice to visit, wouldn’t live here…The warmth has almost beaten me. Going from 14C to 33C in a matter of days is a bit too much. <div>My sleep was broken last night, if not by aching back and hips, it was Husband, tossing and turning. </div><div>Finally got to town to send some postcards, to daughters friends, as I feel the daughter and son wouldn’t care if they got any. </div><div>We had a coffee and carrot cake at The Coffee Club, which was a popular spot with the nomads. </div><div>Had a quick stop at the hunting/fishing shop, for a shot of the crocodile. It will prob be the only one I see here, albeit a plastic one. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1B94pqjriaJlynFWFc3HrdMq5Qj1mG0PK" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1B94pqjriaJlynFWFc3HrdMq5Qj1mG0PK" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"> </div><div style="text-align: left;">Off back to Nitmiluk NP for a river cruise, soon, so hoping i get a seat, or I’ll fall overboard, it’d be my luck 🤦🏻♀️</div><div style="text-align: left;">Well, what an afternoon!</div><div style="text-align: left;">We got to Nitmiluk at 1, had an icecream under the shady trees, listening to the bat plague squeaking, until time to board the ‘cruise boat’ </div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1OCGrv7HtOa9bxxt5cNGbQURJuYW_gA_C" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1OCGrv7HtOa9bxxt5cNGbQURJuYW_gA_C" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">James was our tour leader/captain, had some good jokes, told us of the jawoyn (sounds same as Darwin but ‘spelled differently) indigenous culture etc. </div><div style="text-align: left;">we had to disembark to cross rocks to get to second gorge, trying not to slip over. I really wanted a flight suit, but they’re over $200AUD and I have no pattern yet. </div><div style="text-align: left;">Weird, I know, but I enjoy it, so 😝<img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13N9FSJseTh45hnJ0wDHYYGubc9appIu5" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=13N9FSJseTh45hnJ0wDHYYGubc9appIu5" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Hoping Husband is enjoying shooting those clay targets… and watching out for snakes! </div><div style="text-align: left;">Brought most of washing in, starting to get cloudy and humid. 😩</div><div style="text-align: left;">I’ve written some postcards to the friends (of daughter) and had some lunch. Second Day Of CompHusband left at 6.30 am , for second day of his shooting comp. I’m meeting up with daughter’s ‘sister-in-law’ , she’s taking me to Cullen Bay, for coffee, then to get groceries. We saw her last, at daughter’s wedding, back in February. <div>Temp says 24C, feels like 27 … weird </div><div>Picked up at 9.30, off to Cullen Bay, ordered coffee and croissant. Coffee took awhile but croissant didn’t arrive at all. Having to go ask for it again shits me. It was worth it though…🤤</div><div>The coffee was good too, in a soup bowl, had to slurp it 😝</div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1CKoBN8MLHgDYHM1NI0bAsrxcrkMQ4AwC" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1CKoBN8MLHgDYHM1NI0bAsrxcrkMQ4AwC" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">While Maddi went to the loo, I saw another croc statue… so I got photos and maddi even suggested a pose too, </div><div style="text-align: left;">A family walking past smiled and said they had discussed what I was doing, suggesting perhaps my GRANDDAUGHTER had wanted photos of her doll .. </div><div style="text-align: left;">Good way to make me feel stupid and OLD!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1LmlOhscx5GbRdMtke77mND97kNbk-de8" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1LmlOhscx5GbRdMtke77mND97kNbk-de8" style="max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><img src="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=19H_QbhYfomWy5y8PCoaNEK608NRrZYEF" alt="https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=19H_QbhYfomWy5y8PCoaNEK608NRrZYEF" style="font-size: 12pt; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; max-height: 80%; max-width: 80%; height: auto; width: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">We then got groceries and she dropped me off back at the van park. </div><div style="text-align: left;">I haven’t heard from Husband yet, so I’m assuming he’s waiting to shoot-off against others later, which could be another 3 hour wait. (It’s 2.25pm right now) </div><div style="text-align: left;"> Argh! What a boring afternoon I’ve had except for the phone call from the don, in Melbourne, where we spoke for an hour. </div><div style="text-align: left;">Husband just arrived back, 6.22pm, empty handed this time 😠</div><div style="text-align: left;">And do ends second day of competition. One day to go and we can head home. Oh yay. </div>Lyn Whttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04303601628705124747noreply@blogger.com0
